Medical Detox at TMC Helpline
Safe, physician-supervised detoxification at our Oceanside treatment center
What Is Medical Detox?
Medical detox is the first step in addiction recovery. It is the process of safely clearing drugs or alcohol from your body under constant medical supervision. At TMC Helpline, our on-site physicians and nurses monitor your vital signs around the clock and provide medications to ease withdrawal symptoms.
Detox alone is not treatment for addiction. It is the foundation that prepares your mind and body for the therapeutic work ahead. After completing detox at our facility, most patients transition directly into our residential or outpatient programs.
Our Detox Process
Assessment
When you arrive at our facility, our medical team conducts a thorough evaluation. We review your substance use history, physical health, mental health, and any medications you take. This assessment helps us create a safe, personalized detox plan.
Stabilization
During stabilization, our clinical team uses medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to manage withdrawal symptoms. You rest in a comfortable, private room while our nurses check on you regularly. Most patients stabilize within 3 to 7 days, depending on the substance and severity of dependence.
Transition to Treatment
Once medically stable, your care team meets with you to discuss the next phase of your recovery. We recommend a treatment program based on your needs and work with you to make the transition seamless, whether that means moving into our residential program or starting outpatient care.

Outpatient Programs at TMC Helpline
Flexible treatment at our Oceanside facility that fits your life
Outpatient Treatment Overview
Outpatient treatment allows you to receive structured, clinical care while continuing to live at home. You attend therapy sessions, group meetings, and educational workshops at our Oceanside facility on a set schedule, then return home at the end of each day.
Outpatient programs are ideal for individuals stepping down from residential treatment, those with mild to moderate substance use disorders, or people whose work and family responsibilities make inpatient care difficult. Our treatment center offers three levels of outpatient care to match your clinical needs and schedule.
Levels of Outpatient Care
Partial Hospitalization (PHP)
Most Intensive
- Duration: 2-4 weeks
- Schedule: 5-6 days per week, 6 hours per day
- Includes: Individual therapy, group therapy, psychiatric care, medication management
- Best for: Step-down from residential, or those needing intensive support without overnight stay
PHP at TMC Helpline provides nearly the same intensity as residential treatment. You spend most of the day at our facility receiving therapy and return home in the evening.
Intensive Outpatient (IOP)
Most Popular
- Duration: 8-12 weeks
- Schedule: 3-5 days per week, 3 hours per day
- Includes: Group therapy, individual counseling, relapse prevention, life skills training
- Best for: Step-down from PHP, or those balancing treatment with work or school
IOP offers the flexibility many people need to maintain employment, attend school, or care for family while still receiving meaningful clinical support at our center.
Standard Outpatient
Maintenance Level
- Duration: Ongoing, based on clinical need
- Schedule: 1-2 sessions per week
- Includes: Individual therapy, check-ins, relapse prevention, alumni group access
- Best for: Long-term recovery maintenance and continued growth after intensive treatment
Standard outpatient provides a consistent connection to your recovery support system without disrupting your daily routine.
Step-Down Care: A Gradual Return to Independence
Recovery is strongest when the transition from intensive treatment to independent living happens gradually. At TMC Helpline, we design a step-down plan that moves you through decreasing levels of care at a pace that feels safe and sustainable.
A typical step-down path looks like this: Residential → PHP → IOP → Standard Outpatient → Alumni Support. Each transition is guided by your clinical team, and your treatment plan is adjusted at every stage based on your progress. You are never pushed to the next level before you are ready.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment at TMC Helpline
Integrated care for co-occurring addiction and mental health conditions in Oceanside, California
What Is Dual Diagnosis?
Dual diagnosis means a person has both a substance use disorder and a mental health condition at the same time. These two conditions fuel each other. A person may use drugs or alcohol to cope with depression or anxiety, and continued substance use makes mental health symptoms worse.
Research shows that treating only the addiction without addressing the underlying mental health condition leads to higher rates of relapse. At TMC Helpline, our integrated approach treats both conditions simultaneously so you can achieve lasting recovery.
Common Co-Occurring Disorders We Treat
Depression
Persistent sadness, loss of interest, and hopelessness often accompany substance use disorders. Our clinical team addresses both through therapy and, when appropriate, medication.
Anxiety Disorders
Generalized anxiety, panic disorder, and social anxiety frequently co-occur with addiction. We teach evidence-based coping strategies that replace the need for substances.
PTSD
Trauma and addiction are deeply connected. Our therapists use trauma-informed approaches to help you process painful experiences safely while building recovery skills.
Bipolar Disorder
The mood swings of bipolar disorder can trigger substance misuse. Our psychiatric team provides medication management and therapy designed for this complex combination.
Our Integrated Treatment Approach
At TMC Helpline, we do not treat addiction and mental health in separate silos. Our on-site psychiatrists, therapists, and counselors work together as one team. They share insights, coordinate care, and adjust your treatment plan as a whole rather than in disconnected pieces.
Here is what integrated dual diagnosis care looks like at our facility:
- Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation — Identifying all mental health conditions alongside your substance use disorder
- Medication management — Our psychiatrist prescribes and monitors medications that address mental health symptoms without interfering with your recovery
- Individual therapy — One-on-one sessions using CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed care to address the roots of both conditions
- Specialized group therapy — Groups designed specifically for individuals managing dual diagnosis, so you learn from peers with similar experiences
- Family education — Helping your loved ones understand the connection between mental health and addiction so they can better support your recovery
- Holistic therapies — Yoga, meditation, and mindfulness practices that benefit both mental wellness and addiction recovery
- Coordinated aftercare planning — Ensuring you have ongoing support for both conditions after leaving our treatment center
